The Mariposa Spanish School was one of the most wonderful experiences that I have ever had in Central America. The owner, Paulette Goudge, gives back so much to the local community and the community is truly the heart and soul of the school. The Mariposa is so much more than a school--it is a way of life. Every single person who works there becomes a part of your experience and the graciousness and kindness is overwhelming. The teachers are excellent; food is delicious; solar power provides hot water; and organized activities make the visitor feel right at home. I can't wait to go back!

My memories of Nicaragua especially those of the Mariposa Spanish School and the people of La Concha remain some of my fondest of all my time travelling through Central and South America. Needless to say I highly recommend the place. The School is working directly with the community to build capacity and develop sustainable futures. Unlike many Spanish schools and hotels run by foreigners this one is not-for-profit and is working with and for the community rather than in isolation of it.

My husband and I spent an amazing week at the Mariposa Spanish school and really wished it could have been longer. It was an incredible experience. In addition to the morning spanish lessons we participated in wonderful "off the beaten path" excursions which really immersed you in the "real" nicaragua. We went "behind the scenes" and to places that only locals would know, all in the safety and comfort of local guides. I would recommend Mariposa School and hotel and a first stop for anyone traveling to Nicaragua. It will truly immerse you in the language, culture, history and social life of nicaragua and will make the rest of our nicaragua and central american travels so much richer as a result. You can also feel good that your money is well spent here supporting the entire community.
We can not wait to return and hope to bring our kids and entire extended family next time. We are planning a family reunion trip to a beach house on the Pacific side and want to encourage our family to do a week at Mariposa in addition to the week at the beach. Thank you Paulette, Bergman and the entire staff for a wonderful week. Best of luck to you all!
