Do either of you guys or anyone else on this list, know of a good way to do Cosiguina?  I was thinking of doing some exploring up there, maybe camp out a night or two, surf a bit, whatever.  It looks pretty off the beaten path.

Suggestions?

Oye conejita linda -- yes, check out any of the tour operators in either Leon or Chinandega. Your best bet is probably QuetzalTrekkers, a Guatemala-based NGO that set up a shop in Nicaragua, in Leon, a few years ago and offers lots of overnight volcano excursions. Here's what they offer for Cosiguina:

Oh yeah, profits go to help street kids.

Yes, Quetzaltrekkers is a very good recommendation for the Cosigüina and also for the Telica.  They are camping there for one night and hike on the other day the volcano.

Be also careful by hiking with other touroperators  in León or Chinandega.  One Nicaraguan of Chinandega and working as employee  in a registered tour operator in León was hiking with two Hollandians friends (!!!) the San Cristobal now in the rainy season. They saw the thunderstorm coming, but they didn´t return. They had to stay a  little bit down of the top ALL OVER THE NIGHT IN THE THUNDERSTORM, because of the heavy raining and the clouds on the volcano. So  they couldn´t see any trail down. After the stopping of the rain in the early morning the way down was washed away by the rain they have to go down another trial. The Chinandegian guide feared for his life also.  Please, NEVER GO ON A VOLCANO IF YOU SEE THE WEATHER IS CHANGING!  It could be your last tour !  In Austria such guides will be arrested for 2 years and are prohibited to work as guide again.
