My wife and I would like to take our 2 children(7 and 10) to a language school in Nicaragua that is child/family friendly and  where we could live with a local family.
       We would certainly appreciate suggestions/recommendations.
                Thanks a lot.

Have a look at the recommendations in Moon handbook Nicaragua.  In general, I don't feel like any one school is better suited to children than another.  Rather - when you contact the various schools with regard to pricing, etc. it's in your interest to ask them directly if they can accomodate you.  Because the homestays are often informal, you will probably find they will find a "special" family to accomodate you.  Your best option would be to request they find you a family with similar-aged children your children could hang out with - a guaranteed way to learn.

In my opinion, a more important consideration, knowing 10 year olds, is having enough outside entertainment to make it a fun trip.  On that basis I'd think Granada would be a better choice for you given the surprising number of day trips and weekend trips you can make from Granada.  Other areas are a bit more difficult to travel away from for weekend getaways.

You should consider Ometepe Spanish School; owned and operated by a local Ometepe family, surprising in many ways...You and family would have chance to have a once in a lifetime experience...must see...must do...

Hi!  I just lived in Nicaragua for the last year studying at an amazing Spanish school in the mountains.  I highly recommend it.  Check out www.hijosdelmaiz.net/
It is very kid friendly and amazing.  You live in the countryside - there are no tvs for distractions - everyone is always talking and very welcoming.  They love children there.  There are rarely any cars in the village so they're able to play safely.  Check it out!

I would recommend the Mariposa Spanish School. Although it is not a homestay in the traditional sense, it really feels like it. The Mariposa EcoLodge is a home to many people and lots of critters. We can not wait to bring our boys (8 and 11) there. So many animals, dogs and other kids to play and interact with and the kids will just love the excursions.  We also had a great homestay experience at the San Juan del Sur spanish school.  We stayed with Maria de Jesus and her family and they have a wonderful little girl that your kids would love to play with. She really helped us with our spanish.  Good Luck and please post again if you have already finished your travels and have other family friendly recommendations.
