Tastes like revolution!  I was traveling in Italy in November 06 and stopped into a bar whose entire back wall was a collection of bottles.  Imagine my surprise when I saw three different bottles of Zapatera Rum.  There's only one Zapatera I know of, an island in Nicaragua, so I looked closer.  Sure enough, it's Nicaraguan rum that is no longer produced (Check out Flor de Caņa for the modern product).  The rum dates back to 1988 and 1990, so the end years of the Revolution.  I've lived in Nicaragua for years and never once heard of this stuff, so it's obviously long gone, but it was fun discovering this old relic.  I didn't get a taste of it.

Here's another shot of the label:

Funny -- I also discovered this rum in italy a few years ago. It's all made by the same company, right? Here's where I found a collection of all the rum labels from them:

I am curious. Did you remember what the label looked like?  Where there islands or petroglyphs?  I will be sure to ask around the islands.

There are two links in this thread to an image of the label - have a look for yourself.  As for islands and petroglyphs, there are certainly the former, not sure about the latter.  Have you got some?  After all these years it would be fun to crack open a bottle of revolution - Nicaragua could use one!
