Fellow Travellers:
My friend and I are travelling to Nicaragua in a few weeks and we're hoping to have our first stop be the northern highlands (natural reserves in the Matagalpa/Jinotega/Esteli region).
While there seem to be a number of places to stay in each of the aforementioned towns, there is one place we've found that seems altogether too idyllic, but we've had quite a lot of difficulty in contacting the lodging.
It's called Cabana Los Alpes, and is (apparently) situated on the Matagalpa-Jinotega "highway," at a point which is supposedly 153 kilometers from Managua. It's also (apparently) run by a fellow by the name of "Tio Fermin," who is not accessible by any of the three phone numbers we've tried (listed on this website:
http://www.vianica.com/sp/hotels/185/cabanas-alpes-de-fermin).
We know that the website has been updated since March 2009, as at least two of the phone numbers listed are post-phone-reform and do actually connect you to live human beings....just not the correct live human beings.
We're hoping that someone has some sort of guidance that they may be able to share with us re: whether or not this place actually exists and how to contact this elusive Fermin (we also already know that this place is not listed in the standard phone book and does not have a website of it's own).
Confused & Hopeful,
Amit
