Easiest way to travel from San Jose to Granada Nicaragua

My husband and I will be traveling from San Jose CR to Granada and would like to go by Tica, however we were told that we should get tickets 3 days in advance and we will not be in San Jose for 3 days before we need to be in Granada. Are there flights from San Jose to Managua and then bus to Granada or should we use another shuttle services. Thanks for any help.

I believe Nica Express, based in Granada, is offering services for travelers coming from Costa Rica -- you can take an express bus from San Jose to the border at Penas Blancas, then get a direct shuttle to Granada: http://www.nica-adventures.com/schedules.html

That's one option. You certainly can fly to Managua too, would take less time, then Granada is only 45 minutes away.
