renting surfboards / where to go?

Thanks for setting up this cool forum. Just bought your Moon guidebook -- it looks great.

Is San Juan del Sur the only place in Nica where you can reliably rent a good shortboard? We are heading down and hoping to surf about half the time and I would like to leave my board behind, but wondering if it will be possible to rent (or buy cheap) a reasonable quality (e.g. not foam) shorter board, if we don't go to SJDS?

Also: what are the best surf destinations where my girlfriend could chill on a beautiful beach, I could catch moderate -- not expert but not longboard -- waves without needing a boat or transport, there would be pretty good food and safe. I feel like I have a handle on what it would be like to go to SDJS, but not sure about any of the other surf spots.

Are we even gonna get any swell this time of year?
