Aside from the celebrations for the Virgin Mary (today is a national holiday), Nicaragua is pretty quiet right now. I live here and have no safety concerns. The political protests from a couple of weeks ago lasted one day and were peaceful. Reports from both sides commended the restraint of the protesters.

After all the misery this country has endured, no one I know has any stomach for more trouble.
I live here, and worry about the consequences when the government rigs the next election. But that's a long way off, and you'll find Nicaragua tranquil and welcoming right now.
Any guide book, to almost any country in the world, will tell you to stay away from any political demonstrations, protests, unrest. That's just common sense. But it's extremely unlikely you'll see anything worse than graffitti during your stay.
