My wife and I are visiting Nicaragua in Jan/Feb 2010, our flights to and from MGA stop off in Miami for a couple of hours and we change planes, do we need a visa for our entrance into the USA, or, because we stay airside, can we bypass this visa requirement?

A visa to enter the US or Nicaragua? Where are you flying from?

If not passing through immigration, you should be fine -- but I would ask the airline to be safe.

Hello,

for the Europeans: You always have to fill up the immigration papers (it isn't a visa!) if you are travelling to the USA - neither you stay there or not! And you always have to go through the customs (and also filling up the custom papers)!
In the USA there is no transit regulation like in other countries of the world (sorry, but at this way the government will get more data information from the traveller and their travelling attitudes - they also want to get from the EU that we (EU-citizens) have to give them all the data of our credit-cards if we are travelling to the USA, that's horrible and not adequate!)! You have to know if you are travelling to the USA you will get a transparent citizen - much more than you are at Europe! But all these things are an especially discussion...... Wink Roll Eyes

Tipp: when you are filling up the papers (you will get them in the aeroplane)...at the position "where do you stay in the USA? - destination address" please write: "In Transit to ..."
Please note: You also have to fill up the "ESTA Authorization" online, at least 72 hours before your flight goes. ...and don't wonder that it is the same paper like in the aeroplane.... Huh ...so practically you have to do it twice! But at your flight from London to Miami you will get enough time to do the papers! Grin

Que te vaias bien!

....and pay $49 for the ESTA document online, NOT to spend time in the good old US of A, bargain!! Grin

Many thanks for the assistance Arambigua, we are looking forward to spending a well deserved holiday/honeymoon in beautiful Nicaragua and on Little Corn Island.

Muchos gracias.

Hello,

...if you get your ESTA-Authorization from this page https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov  (than choose your language, fill it up, you will get the permission immediately) you don't have to pay anything! The permission is applied for two years. This page is the official US-government website. Wink

Who got the money for this paper from you? The travel agency?

Enjoy the Corn Islands and Nicaragua (if you want to stay very "tranquilo", go to Little Corn Island, there isn't any motorbike or car - only horses and bikes - it's great!)! Grin

Saludos, arambigua
