Has anyone ever spent the night in Masaya? If so, can you recommend a hotel(s)? - Jessica

Moon Nicaragua lists all your options, there aren't many, but there are a few good ones, clustered together a few blocks from the market. The only advice is do NOT stay in the auto-hotels along the Carreterra Masaya (they are by-the-hour love hotels).

If you have a car, the Hotel Volcán Masaya is nice. Very serene grounds and adequate rooms. There is nothing nearby, so if you are on the bus, it's quite inconvenient. And although it is next to the park entrance, you really don't want to try to walk all the way to the volcan overlook from there.

In town, we spent a few nights at Madera's Inn. Good location, and although we were afraid it would be noisy, it wasn't bad. Look at the room before checking in, as some rooms are nicer than others (although none are above nice-typical for Nicaragua). We didn't see anywhere else in town that made us wish we had stayed there instead.

If you have your own transportation, very close to Masaya in pueblo of Diria, then an overnight stay with full run of the house can be arranged at www.nicaraguavolcanoranch.com.
