I have the chance to go to Nicaragua for ONE YEAR and study Spanish. I speak a little bit now, but really hope to achieve enough fluency to pass a bilingual certification exam back in the US upon my return. So it's a professional goal.
I have a husband and a dog. The dog will be coming with me.
The husband travels a lot and will probably not join me for the first six months.
I've just started researching where to go. My plan is to go down there for two months first and check out some schools and locations and just do homestays. Then once I pick a place, I will rent a room and bring my dog over. It's a quick flight from Houston and my dog is very well-behaved. Much better than the local dogs I'm sure!
So how hard do you think this is going to be? Any recommendations about where I can study for a full year? I need a teacher who can really tailor to my needs. I need a city where I can find accomodation and where I won't get too bored and where I have the opportunity to really practice Spanish and not spend all my time hanging with gringos!
I was thinking somewhere that can give me the chance to volunteer with locals in the afternoons might be good.
Mostly I've been leaning towards Leon but that might be too touristy?? I'm not extremely self-disciplined...
Finally, I play a little guitar and would like to use this year to improve that also. A Spanish teacher who is married to a guitar teacher would be ideal! I'll pay them both!
