Hi I'll be traveling  in Nicaragua sola  late July through mid Aug will study Spanish 2 weeks--2 different locations then travel one week. I'm just starting my travel research.
Question:
Laguna Apoya sounds amazing and there is a Spanish school there, is one week there too long though?

I like off the beaten track, but I also love really good coffee. Are there some schools on the Pacific coast that folks would recommend? or is Granada a good choice and doing day trips from there?
Thanks for your assistance.

mray -- you've exactly identified the number one thing to consider when choosing a spanish school in nicaragua: where do you want to be? city? country? north? beach? laguna? there are schools in all these areas, all offering unique slices of nicaragua. for the REALLY good coffee, consider matagalpa spanish school.

I am going to do one week at the school on laguna Apoya.
Now trying to decide between Leon and San Jan de Sur--even though I hear its very touristy I was thinking that a sola middle aged female it may be easier to meet people to hang out with their?

"Very touristy" is a relative term and nothing in Nicaragua comes close to the Cancun-y images most people use this term for. In other words, don't worry about it. Leon if you want hot colonial city and volcanoes, san juan if you want surfers, sand in toes, etc.
