I have read about la canícula in Nicaragua.  Some say la canícula is July 15-August 15, and others say August 15-September 15.  Which is it?  Does it move around a lot or is it pretty reliable?

I am using Continental reward miles for one of our tickets.  As of today my travel date options are:  July 16-July 27 or Aug.9-Aug. 18.

I have been working on a trip to Nicaragua since last fall! My husband is finally coming around.  He is an attorney and no decision is made easily or hastily.

I am very close to closing this deal, please help!  Shocked

Hola, we've lived here for a year and a half and this is the first I've heard of it. During the rainy season we usually get a light storm in the morning or evening. Unless a major tropical storm is passing through, the rains are intense but, of short duration. Personally, I prefer the rainy to the dry season. The landscape is greener, the streets are cleaner and the temperatures are much more moderate. You'll love the country. If you're coming to the Granada area I invite you to check out our website.

cheers, Rob

Hola Gatita Loca,
I have not heard of canícula either. I believe Managua, Juigalpa and Ocotal all have their patron saint festivals in August. And León celebrates La Gritería Chiquita. (Joshua - please correct me if I'm wrong.) I try to schedule our tours around festivals and holidays to enhance the Nicaragua experience. Something to consider...  – Jessica  www.ToursToNicaragua.com

Please take a look at the "Special" section on www.vianica.com  They have a complete listing of festivals and celebrations.

Hello - We cover the phenomenon of the Canicula in Moon Nicaragua pretty thoroughly.  But because it's a meteorological phenomenon it doesn't map directly to calendar dates.  Simply, it's a short dry period within the rainy season, nothing more.  Might mean a couple of sunny days before the showers set in again.

Happy travels -

Randy
