Last week I stayed in a very special hotel in Granada. Hotel con Corazon. I felt right at home, it has a warm atmosphere, comfortable bed, soft towels and a well equipped bathroom.
Very important things when you're travelling, but that was not what made it special... There is also always something going on. I have enjoyed a good meal and drink, relaxed by the pool and joined many of their activities. Even when I wanted to do something but wasn't on their list, they helped me to organize it. That all was great, but also not special... What did made it special to me then? Hotel con Corazon is not just a hotel; it is a hotel with a heart. This means that the hotel is contributing to the sustainable development of Nicaragua, by investing in education and employment. For example, all their profits go to projects that stimulate children to go to school and successfully complete their education. But also, the hotel creates employment through employing a Nicaraguan hotel staff, as well as purchasing local products and working with local suppliers. This hotel gives me 'the best of both worlds'. Fun and a home when I'm travellling but also my money ends up in good hands!
