Zapatera Island

My husband and I are planning to be in Granada for about 3 days. We were thinking about taking one of the day tours to Zapatera Island offered by Tierra Tours. Is it worth the $75 to tour the island? Or is there a better option for us to spend our time and money on? Thanks!

Hard to say what $75 is worth to you; I agree it's a bit pricey. But Zapatera is pretty neat if you're into archeology and more out-of-the-way sites. If you've already planned a trip to Laguna de Apoyo and have already hiked Mombacho, Zapatera is a really neat next step. I don't know if I'd choose Zapatera
over
those other sites, but I definitely think it's a neat place - if only because it's not full of other travelers.
Sorry to be vague; in the end it's really an issue of how easily you can part with $75. If you'd blow that kind of cash at a nice restaurant back home then Zapatera will probably be fun for you. That kind of money goes a long way elsewhere in Nicaragua, though.

Also, consider Kevin Cohen's Zapatera Tour services in town. Zapatera is an extremely underdeveloped, remote-feeling, little-visited destination. The petroglyphs are fascinating, the boat ride is gorgeous. And it's pretty close to Granada.

Thanks for the feedback! This will be our first trip to Nicarauga so I haven't yet hiked Mombacho or been to Laguna Apoyo, but we may manage to fit in one or two of those things in as well as Zapatera Island. I will check out Kevin Cohen's Zapatera service. Thank you for the tip!
